When You Might Need It More Often
If you burn several times a week through a full DFW winter, or you burn unseasoned wood (which produces more creosote), a mid-season check is worth considering. Wood stoves used as a primary heat source often need more frequent attention than an occasional-use fireplace.

A smoky smell when the fireplace isn't in use, visible dark buildup inside the firebox, or difficulty getting a fire to draw properly are all signs worth acting on sooner rather than waiting for an annual schedule.
